Current Trends and Issues in Food Label Litigation and Regulation (New Orleans)
Lane Powell Shareholder Paul Swanson will present “Current Trends and Issues in Food Label Litigation and Regulation” at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum’s 2012 Continuing Legal Education (“CLE”) Seminar. The seminar, presented in partnership with Tulane University Law School and the Louisiana Restaurant Association, will be held at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum in New Orleans on September 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In his presentation, Swanson will address significant food labeling cases and trends of 2012 and their impact on food marketing. Among the cases to be discussed are the FTC’s lawsuit against Pom Wonderful regarding substantiation of its health claims promoting pomegranate juice consumption; Fresh Del Monte and Del Monte Foods’ long-running battle over placement of their competing food products in grocery store refrigerated display cases; and class action litigation concerning the use of certain words and phrases on food labels (e.g., “all-natural” or “excellent source of Omega-3s”).
