Degginger Quoted in AWC’s Cityvision Magazine Regarding the Cascade Water Alliance

Lane Powell Shareholder Grant Degginger was quoted in Association of Washington Cities (“AWC”) Cityvision magazine’s September/October 2011 issue in the article “Tapped In: Coalitions Combine to Share a Precious Water Resource.” Degginger discussed the creation of the Cascade Water Alliance in 1999 while he was serving as council member for the City of Bellevue.

Council member Grant Degginger remembers exactly what motivated him to spearhead the founding of the Cascade Water Alliance in 1999: The city’s water contract with Seattle was due to expire in 2012, and rumors were flying that the contract might not be renewed.

‘There was some concern in Seattle that selling water to East Side cities was encouraging sprawl,’ recalls Degginger, a Seattle attorney who was elected to Bellevue’s council that year and served as mayor from 2006 to 2010. ‘So we decided to work together to develop a long-term water-supply strategy for the East Side and South County.’

Partnering with other East Side cities, Bellevue formed the Cascade Water Alliance as a nonprofit corporation chartered to provide a safe, clean and reliable water supply for its members for the next half century. …
