Countrywide Financial Defense Victorious Against Class Action RICO Violation Accusations
Judge Richard Jones of the Western District of Washington granted Lane Powell’s motion to dismiss without leave to amend in a class action lawsuit in which Capitol West Appraisals filed a putative class action complaint alleging that Lane Powell client, Countrywide Financial, violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization (“RICO”) Act, based on activities in the mortgage business. The court dismissed the complaint on the basis of the briefing and support evidence. Lane Powell attorney John Devlin provided counsel to Countrywide Financial.
