Areas of Practice

Bryan Powell is Co-chair of the Firm’s Real Estate and Land Use Practice Group. His practice focuses on industrial, office and retail mixed-use development, private/public redevelopment, and seniors housing projects, including areas of sales and acquisitions, leasing, management and operations. Bryan routinely assists developer, investor and lender clients in deal structuring and in finding creative financing solutions for difficult-to-fund projects. Bryan combines technical legal expertise with a practical approach in understanding the parties’ business needs and objectives, which enables him to put challenging deals together or to orchestrate the restructuring of troubled projects with positive results.

Bryan also has broad experience in real estate finance, secured lending, workouts and loan restructuring, having represented numerous lenders and borrowers over the years. Besides institutional lending, other projects that Bryan has worked on have included financing with federal funds or agency insured programs; state and local financing programs, including bond financing; and various tax credit programs, as available.

Bryan also frequently works with owners, operators and investors of independent, assisted living facility and continuing care retirement communities on acquisition, development and financing of many aspects of seniors housing matters, including deal structuring of joint ventures and partnership arrangements.

Bryan is perennially listed for his work in Real Estate Law in Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and in Oregon Super Lawyers. Chambers’ described him as “highly respected by sources who note that ‘he is a deal-maker’” and as “an excellent real estate lawyer” with “a good, solid reputation” in the market.  Bryan is also a Fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys and The Counselors of Real Estate.
