Five Ways to Prepare for Portland’s Sick Leave Mandate

Lane Powell Shareholder David Hosenpud was featured in a Portland Business Journal article on March 29 titled “Five Ways to Prepare for Portland’s Sick and Leave Mandate.”  The new mandate will take effect beginning in 2014 and will apply to all private-sector employers with at least six employees.  Hosenpud offered his advice on how Portland-based companies can prepare for the upcoming changes, as well as the precautions they will need to take.

Large employers, particularly those who operate in multiple states, will need to review their sick-leave or paid time off policies to determine whether the Portland law will be preempted in whole or in part by other federal and state laws.
