Summer Associate Program

At Lane Powell, we seek highly qualified and motivated people to join us as attorneys in our Firm. The Firm seeks to hire well rounded and motivated individuals who possess high academic credentials, display a genuine interest in our Firm and who make a commitment to grow with us to develop into outstanding lawyers and leaders in the communities in which we live and work.

Our summer program is an important part of our recruiting efforts. We work hard to acquaint our summer associates with our Firm, its practice and the communities in which we live, and we strive to offer each of our summer associates the opportunity to develop as a true practitioner.

Like our new associates, summer associates work on a wide variety of current legal assignments. We seek to provide substantive legal experience and client contact and to offer as complete a view of our practice as possible, including attendance at trials, depositions and hearings, negotiating sessions, Firm-sponsored seminars and other working experiences.

We believe our summer program provides an important opportunity for summer associates to tailor their work experience according to their interests. Each summer associate works with our Summer Associate Director to select work assignments that are of interest to the summer associate and that cover a variety of practice areas. In addition, summer associates may have opportunities to perform pro-bono work for the community.

Our summer associates receive oral and written feedback and formal evaluations on each project from the lawyers they work with and from other lawyers assigned to help with the summer program. At least two lawyers read every written project and give substantive reviews. In addition, our Summer Associate Director provides the summer associates with feedback and support throughout the summer.

We work hard to integrate our summer associates into life at the Firm. We assign each summer associate one or more attorney mentors who are available to answer any questions that arise regarding work, the Firm, or the community. During the summer, the Firm coordinates social events to increase interaction on an informal basis among the attorneys, summer associates, and staff. Typical events include dinners and BBQs at partners' homes, sporting events, hiking trips, sailing trips and the annual Firm summer picnic. We also encourage our summer associates to attend practice group functions, associate meetings, and Firm-sponsored seminars.
