Professional Development Training
In today's legal environment, law firms have a strong interest and motivation to provide comprehensive training to ensure opportunities for professional growth. At Lane Powell we take our attorneys' professional development seriously. These programs are designed to provide attorneys with the legal skills necessary to succeed and to help integrate new associates into the Firm and its culture.
Summer Associate Program. From the first week our summer associates arrive, we provide training in substantive and practical skills. Our summer associate orientation and weekly training programs help prepare our summer associates for working in a law firm.
First Year Training Program. An associate's first year at a law firm can be overwhelming. Our efforts to ease the transition for first year associates and new laterals is by offering training sessions.
Training. Lane Powell associates participate in training within the Firm. The Firm's training initiatives include:
- An eight-part, firm-wide pretrial litigation skills program for all litigation associates
- Bi-weekly training programs for incoming first year and lateral associates
- Weekly training programs for the Firm's summer associates
- Numerous substantive training programs on a variety of legal topics valuable to both associates and partners; and
- Training programs presented by practice groups on issues specific to those groups
The Firm's mentor program matches incoming associates with both partner and associate mentors to help guide the associate's first years in the Firm.
In addition to the training programs, our professional development staff manages the associate evaluation program, the partner/associate mentoring program, and our summer associate program.
Associate Evaluation. Every associate at Lane Powell receives an annual performance evaluation, and junior associates receive performance evaluations every six months. These evaluations help to ensure that our associates always know how they are doing with their work performance. In addition to these formal evaluations, partners are regularly encouraged to provide ongoing evaluations of the associates they work with.
These programs are designed to provide associates with the legal skills necessary to succeed and to help integrate new associates into the Firm.
