Lane Powell Shareholder David Van’t Hof was quoted in an article titled “Green Empowerment exports clean energy knowledge” that appeared in the May 11 edition of Sustainable Business Oregon, an online publication of the Portland Business Journal.  The article discusses Green Empowerment’s latest project — biogas digesters in Latin America.  They have installed ten biogas digesters in five Latin American countries and are doing research using cow manure in the bio-digesters to create fertilizer, biogas and possibly electricity.  Van’t Hof said:

“It’s like what happened with cell phones in some countries that never had land lines. Some of these villages will be able to skip to a generation of transmission-free energy.”

Green Empowerment’s mission is to partner with rural communities in the developing world to implement renewable energy and water systems that alleviate poverty and preserve the environment.  Van’t Hof serves on Green Empowerment’s Board of Directors.
