Lane Powell Counsel to the Firm Alex Smith has been appointed to the Washington Department of Ecology’s (the “Department”) Model Toxics Control Act (“MTCA”) Policy Advisory Committee, which will advise the Department in its comprehensive re-write of Washington’s contaminated site cleanup rules and the contaminated sediment cleanup regulations (known as the Sediment Management Standards).

The committee was first created during the 1995 Legislative Session to assess the effectiveness of MTCA, and suggest changes to improve it. All of the recommendations were to focus on making the business of cleanup more fair, easier to understand, more flexible, less expensive and help speed cleanups, which in turn protect public health and the environment. The current committee will endeavor to make similar recommendations as the Department updates and revises its cleanup regulations.
