Morgan Weighs in on Kmart-Sears Deal In Dow Jones News Service Article
Lane Powell partner Michael Morgan was quoted in a November 14, 2004 Dow Jones News Service article that will appear in newspapers and on websites worldwide. In the article, “Kmart’s Buy Of Sears Is About Real Estate, Not Retailing,” by James Cover, Morgan explains how perhaps the greatest value of the newly combined company of Sears and Kmart is its shared real estate portfolio. Both companies have properties which have become highly desirable to retailers, such as Target and Home Depot, in tight real estate markets where mall-based space is at a premium.
Michael Morgan has acted as counsel to a number of major public and private companies in the Pacific Northwest as a partner at Lane Powell Spears Lubersky. His active merger and acquisition practice has represented both buyers and sellers in negotiating hostile transactions. He acts as secretary to the Board of Directors for Cutter and Buck, Inc. and is a contributing author and editorial board member to the Washington Commercial Law Deskbook.
