Lane Powell President Lewis Horowitz was quoted in an article entitled, “Flat-fee billing settles in; billable hour stays king,” which appeared in the May 29 issue of the Portland Business Journal. In this article, Horowitz discussed how many Oregon businesses of different sizes want their law firms to change their billing practices to flat-fee rates. Horowitz stated that the industry “tends to police itself” and that “lawyers have trouble doing anything but top-quality work.” He said flat-fee billing “works best with clients with whom you have a good relationship. And it’s not made available on a one-time basis. We know about these matters and which ones might explode and become real litigation.”
