Lawyerpalooza- Law Firm Battle of Bands for School Music
Six Seattle law firms will put aside their legal briefs and billable hours on Monday night, February 10, 2003, and take up musical instruments to rock and roll for local school music programs. The First Annual Lawyerpalooza will be a battle of the bands featuring Seattle law firms Lane Powell Spears Lubersky, Preston Gates and Ellis, Perkins Coie, Williams Kastner and Gibbs, Riddell Williams and Karr Tuttle Campbell.
The Four Seasons Olympic Hotel is donating the Spanish Ballroom for Lawyerpalooza, which will start at 6:00 p.m. and run to 9:30 p.m. The battle of the bands will feature 20-minute sets by each band. A panel of judges comprised of local celebrities will pick the winner of the soon-to-be-coveted “Golden Palooza” award based on performance and audience response. KOMO-TV weatherman Steve Pool will be the master of ceremonies.
With the considerable musical talent in the Seattle legal community on display, Lawyerpalooza will raise money to help fund elementary school music programs in the Seattle School District. “Unfortunately, music programs are often viewed as extras in tight budget times,” says Mike Nesteroff, Lawyerpalooza Organizing Committee Chair and guitarist in the Lane Powell band, “when in fact they have been shown to have a positive impact on how kids do in the basic subjects.” Lawyerpalooza is targeting elementary school music programs in particular since those usually do not receive much attention, yet they form the foundation for some of the higher profile programs in the high schools. “There are a lot of schools with needs and we know that every dollar we raise can go a surprisingly long way,” says Nesteroff.
Tickets will be available starting in early January 2003. Suggested donation is $15.00 advance and $20.00 at the door. Sponsorships also are welcome. Lawyerpalooza is a Washington non-profit corporation and donations will be tax deductible.
