Lane Powell Participates in National Rebuilding Day 2009
On April 25, National Rebuilding Day, Lane Powell teamed up with Metal Roof Specialties and Sisters in the Building Trades to help renovate three homes (one rambler model and two townhomes) in the Federal Way community. The 87 volunteers, roughly 60 of which were from Lane Powell, worked from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., painting and performing various electrical, construction and landscaping projects on the homes. It was part of a nationwide effort organized by Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. The day is dedicated to rehabilitating and improving the homes of low-income Americans at no cost. Recipients of services include the elderly, disabled, military veterans and families in need.
Through the generosity of the Firm and work done by volunteers, goals were accomplished beyond the original scope for the homes. Lane Powell purchased two stoves and had enough funds remaining from donations to purchase flowers for landscaping. A third stove was donated and used for parts. One of the homeowners preferred her own stove to the donated stove, so two volunteers from Lane Powell put a lot of elbow grease into cleaning the owner’s stove. When the volunteers decided to build sandboxes, a Lane Powell volunteer insisted on buying covered sandboxes in the shape of a turtle, much to the kids’ delight.
