INS to Dissolve March 1, 2003
As of March 1, 2003, the Immigration & Naturalization Service (“INS”) will cease to exist. It will be abolished and all immigration functions will be transferred to the Department of Homeland Security, except for Immigration Court functions which will remain in the Department of Justice. Immigration benefits (visa, green card, and citizenship processing) will be handled by the Department of Homeland Security’s Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (“BCIS”).
