Oregon Employers May Be Subject to Costly Penalties For Improper Deductions From Paychecks and Delays in Paying Wages to Departing Employees

The federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has recently reaffirmed that, under the Oregon state wage laws, an employee could recover statutory damages because of the employer’s unlawful deduction from her paycheck and delay in paying her wages on termination, including penalty wages. The employee had given notice and quit, but the employer deducted a sum from her final paycheck for office supplies her manager believed she had taken.  View full article (PDF).
