Federal District Court Bars Publication of Sequel to Gone With The Wind
A federal district court in Atlanta recently barred the publication and distribution of a book called The Wind Done Gone, on the ground that it was an unauthorized sequel to Gone With The Wind, and not a legitimate parody. Suntrust Bank v. Houghton Mifflin Co. (N.D. Ga., April 20, 2001). While the opinion itself does not create new copyright law, the dispute raises interesting questions about how to draw the line between parody and piracy. View full article (PDF).
