How Oregon Taxes Its Visiting Workforce
Lane Powell Attorney Jeremy Babener recently authored an article in the Oregon State Bar’s Spring 2014 Taxation Section newsletter titled “How Oregon Taxes Its Visiting Workforce.” In the article, Babener discussed the Oregon income taxation of workers who visit Oregon temporarily, indefinitely or as part of a process that ultimately leads to Oregon residence. The amount of an individual’s Oregon income tax depends on their status as a full-year resident, full-year nonresident or part-year resident, and the sources and types of their income. Babener discussed the treatment of a Seattle Sounders soccer player, a New York attorney, and a San Francisco software engineer, who each visited or moved to Oregon for work.
