Farm to Table: Government — Policy, Subsidies, Future Role? (New Orleans)
Lane Powell Shareholder Paul Swanson will serve on a panel at the Farm to Table International Symposium on Friday, August 2, from 2:45-4:15 p.m. The panel will discuss “Government: Policy, Subsidies, Future Role?” With the commerce clause as their basis, the federal and local governments have created farm subsidies, crop insurance programs and local programs to encourage certain types of food production. They have also enacted many laws and regulations to shape the face of agriculture, food manufacturing and drink distribution. Some of these policies stand in opposition to current stated policies of the government in fostering public health. How can legacy policies be addressed? What are the legal rights of those businesses that have come to rely on these policies? During the panel, these and similar issues will be explored in light of pending legislation and recent litigation. The symposium will take place August 2-4, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, La. For more information or to register, visit the event website.
