NHRMA 2013 Conference and Tradeshow: Can Employers Legally Discriminate Against Obese, Sick and Lazy People? (Tacoma, Wash.)
Lane Powell Shareholders Katheryn Bradley and Craig Day will present “Can Employers Legally Discriminate Against Obese, Sick and Lazy People?” at the 75th Annual Northwest Human Resource Management Association (“NHRMA”) Conference and Tradeshow from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on October 10. The conference will take place from October 9-11, at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center in Tacoma, Wash. Rising health care costs have prompted employers to consider wellness programs to rein in the costs. The health care reform law provides strict guidelines which allow employers to offer incentives to employees who choose healthy lifestyles. But what might be legal for wellness programs may be illegal under other laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act. During their presentation, Bradley and Day will address how to design a legally compliant wellness program while avoiding the legal minefields created by anti-discrimination laws such as the ADA.
