Day Joins Lane Powell’s Employee Benefits, Taxation and Business Practice Groups
Craig A. Day has joined Lane Powell as Counsel to the Firm in the Employee Benefits, Taxation and Business Practice Groups, where he focuses his practice on ERISA-related matters, employee benefits issues and executive compensation. He has extensive experience in ERISA issues related to qualified and nonqualified retirement plans, including advising on plan design, plan mergers and terminations, mergers and acquisitions, and due diligence; nondiscrimination requirements and compensation issues under Code Section 415; QDROs; IRS and DOL audits; IRS correction program; governmental and multi-employer plans and tax-exempt entities; compliance with Section 409A; and FICA taxation of deferred compensation plans. Craig also has extensive experience advising the design, implementation and operation of various deferred compensation plans; compliance with Section 409A; and FICA taxation of deferred compensation plans. Craig advises on company sponsored and acquired-company cash balance pension plans, defined benefit plans, 401(k) plans, ESOPs, fringe benefit plans, severance plans, health and welfare plans, and employee stock purchase plans.
Prior to joining Lane Powell, Craig was a Principal at Mercer, where he advised consultants and external clients on tax and ERISA issues related to qualified and nonqualified retirement plans. His experience also includes serving as First Vice President and Senior Counsel at Washington Mutual Bank, where he focused his practice on broad-based employee benefit plans; executive compensation plans; qualified, nonqualified and welfare plans; and benefits and matters related to mergers, acquisitions, outsourcing and off-shoring.
Craig earned his B.A. in Business Administration and his J.D., with honors, from University of Washington.
