Lane Powell was the presenting sponsor for the Downtown Seattle Association’s (“DSA”) 2012 State of Downtown Economic Forum on February 8, at which Lane Powell Vice President Chuck Riley introduced the featured speaker, President of Nordstrom Inc., Blake Nordstrom. The Forum, which is DSA’s annual analysis of Seattle’s Downtown economy, was themed “Investing in the Urban Experience,” and took a critical look at 2011 while addressing the competitive advantage of the urban experience and the importance of retail in Downtown’s future. Close to 1,000 of Seattle’s community and business leaders attended the event held at the Westin Hotel. Nordstrom provided a first-hand account of the importance of retail to Downtown Seattle’s economy and Downtown’s position as a regional shopping destination, as well as addressed how community leaders can help grow retail and the overall urban experience in Downtown Seattle. Forum attendees also received a copy of the DSA’s 2012 State of Downtown Economic Report, including statistics and comparative year-over-year analysis on Downtown’s economic drivers for 2010.
