Lane Powell Counsel to the Firm Margaret Stock will serve on a panel discussing “Federalism and State Immigration Policy” at The Federalist Society’s Sixth Annual Western Conference “Challenges Facing California and the Western States” on January 28 from 2:15-4 p.m. at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif. The panel will discuss Arizona v. United States, which raises several cutting edge questions about federal preemption of state laws. These questions derive from Arizona’s “mirror image theory” of the case in which Arizona argues that its statutes are a mirror image of federal statutes, and therefore that no preemption problem exists.
