Nesteroff Interviewed on LexBlog Network TV About California Adopting Cap-and-Trade Regulations
Lane Powell Shareholder Mike Nesteroff was interviewed on LexBlog Network TV on October 28 by Colin O’Keefe regarding California adopting cap-and-trade regulations. The interview resulted from Mike’s October 25 blog post titled “California Passes Cap-and-Trade. Now What?” on Lane Powell’s Sustainability and Climate Change Reporter blog. During the interview, Nesteroff discussed California adopting economy-wide cap-and-trade regulations, the first of their kind in the U.S. The first regulations go into effect on January 1, 2012. In the interview, Nesteroff describes the long and tortuous process that led to adoption of cap-and-trade as one of several strategies to reduce California’s greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.
Cap-and-trade is one piece of that, but it’s probably been one of the more controversial pieces because Congress tried to pass one a couple years ago and it never went anywhere. And, it’s a fairly complicated, complex regime, and so it’s been controversial. There was a ballot measure last fall to try to prevent it from being adopted. There was also a court case earlier this year.
