Spellman Mentioned in The Olympian Regarding Noncompete Case
Lane Powell Shareholder David Spellman was mentioned in The Olympian in an article on September 10, titled “Attorney Grills JZ Knight About Ex-Student.” The article outlines a noncompete case filed by the Ramtha School against Lane Powell client, Ms. Weaver. The Ramtha School claims that Weaver taught a seminar that violated terms of a registration form she signed, which says teachings at the Ramtha school are for the students’ personal use only and cannot be disseminated or taught for commercial gain. As stated in the article, Spellman “pummeled school administrator Mike Wright during cross-examination in an effort to establish that the registration form was inconsistent from year-to-year and lacked specifics. Spellman tried, in particular, to show that [the Field Work exercise] seen by Knight as appropriated by Weaver could easily be items of public domain” such as pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey. A jury later decided Ms. Weaver was liable for no damages.
