Nisei Veterans Committee Thanks Degginger for Pro Bono Work
The Nisei Veterans Committee (“NVC”) thanked Grant Degginger for his pro bono work in its September 2007 Newsletter. NVC honors all Japanese-American soldiers who have served in wars and conflicts.
Degginger, who is currently serving a two-year term as the mayor of Bellevue, helped NVC negotiate with King County on the terms for $200,000 of funding for NVC’s Capital Campaign. NVC enlisted Degginger’s assistance because of his understanding of government funding for non-profits. Grant successfully negotiated a contract revision that will potentially save NVC thousands of dollars, allow the transfer of building and land to the NVC Foundation (without triggering a default), and shorten the term of the contract from 20 to 10 years.
“Such legal work would have cost the NVC thousands of dollars, but Mr. Degginger and his firm did the work pro bono — free of charge,” newsletter writer Yuzo Tokita said. “So, if you happen to see Bellevue Mayor Grant Degginger, make sure you take the time to thank him on behalf of all of the Seattle Nisei Veterans membership!”
