Ostroff Quoted on Employment Laws in Portland DJC
The Portland Daily Journal of Commerce covered Lane Powell’s Labor and Employment Seminar, led by Paul Ostroff, in an August 1 article. The seminar educated employers about the impact of 19 bills passed in Oregon this session that were meant to protect workers from discrimination and expand employee rights in the workplace. Ostroff said the new laws leave much room for interpretation, however, and some could have unintended consequences that ultimately could land businesses with large discrimination or class action payouts. HB 2674, for example, could penalize a business for payroll deductions made to an outside firm managing the business’s employee benefits programs if the deductions aren’t credited to the employee within seven days, Ostroff said.
